BOBBY AGGARWAL

Like most people, Bobby Aggarwal pursued his academics in a conventional way, and after working at a cotton mill, an ad agency and other jobs that he didn't have a penchant, passion or flair for, he decided to embark on a journey of his own.

"Leather, to me is an amazing raw material," explains Bobby. "I love working with the marks and blemishes that add to the individual character of each piece I make.

"I would toy with different colouring techniques and finishes to see just how far I could go, all the time trying to achieve that used/old look"

An array of influences is prevalent in every collection. "My inspiration comes from a sub-conscious level but not without catalysts from the outside world. The vibrancy of the colours that surround me, the humming, throbbing, pulsating streets; old architecture, music and even Bollywood play a huge role in my creative process.

Old time Clint Eastwood & Gregory Peck classics, with their leather saddles and holsters, movies like 'Out of Africa', Agatha Christie’s upper class, mysterious characters with their heavy luggage on the ‘Orient Express’ have had a major impact in my growing up years and have somehow translated into my design sensibilities".

Last but not least, "I feel furniture should not always be taken too seriously. I do hope the humour comes through in my pieces and brings a smile to your face."
